Quick answer: can you do a yoga teacher training in India for under $600?
Yes. A Yoga Alliance 200-hour course in India for under $600 is possible, mostly in Rishikesh, but it is rare. Most budget prices you see either share a women-only room, leave out meals, or exclude the room altogether. At Swaastik Yog School in Tapovan, the 22-day 200-hour course is $440 all-inclusive in a 4-bed dorm open to men and women, with sattvic vegetarian meals, materials and the certificate.
- Rishikesh median 200-hour starting price: $799 (19 schools, our August 2026 price index).
- Cheapest room with stay and meals, open to anyone: median $999.
- Before you pay: check the school's RYS 200 listing on Yoga Alliance.
Disclosure: Swaastik Yog School wrote this guide, and our school is one of the budget options it describes.
"What is the cheapest yoga teacher training in India?" is a fair question. Many people who message us are students, career changers or travellers on a tight budget. They want a real certificate without spending their savings.
The honest answer is that the cheapest price you see online is often not the cheapest price you will pay. This guide shows what you can really get for under $600, what a low headline price often leaves out, and how to compare two budget quotes properly.
What can you get for under $600 at a glance?
Under $600 in India you can realistically book a 100-hour course, a 200-hour course in a shared dorm, or a short specialist certificate. Here are the options at our school, priced from our live course pages, next to the Rishikesh market figures.
| Course | Length | Swaastik dorm price (all-inclusive) | Rishikesh median starting price | Certificate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100-hour yoga teacher training | 14 days | $275 | $580 | Yoga Alliance certificate that counts toward RYT 200 |
| 200-hour yoga teacher training | 22 days | $440 | $799 | RYS 200, so you can register as RYT 200 |
| Aerial yoga teacher training (Aerial Rishikesh) | 7 days, 50 hours | $195 | Not in our index | Yoga Alliance continuing education |
| Sound healing, Level 1 | 2 days | $220 | Not in our index | YACEP continuing education |

Is a 200-hour yoga teacher training under $600 really possible in India?
Yes, but under $600 is the bottom of the market, not the middle. When we read the price pages of 19 Rishikesh schools in August 2026, the lowest advertised 200-hour starting price was $595 and the median was $799. Only a handful of schools started below $700.
In late October 2026 we also saw a few booking-site listings for Rishikesh 200-hour courses around $400 to $450. Read those carefully. Some list the room and the course but do not say clearly whether meals or the certificate are included.
Rishikesh is the cheapest major place to train in India. In our index, the median 200-hour starting price was $799 in Rishikesh, $1,100 in Kerala, $1,200 in Dharamshala and $1,521 in Goa. If your budget is under $600, Rishikesh is where to look first.
What does "cheap" usually leave out?
A low headline price usually saves money on the room, the meals or the extras, not on the 200-hour syllabus itself. The Yoga Alliance standard is the same at every registered school. So check these six things before you compare prices.
1. A room that is open to you
In our index, 3 of the 19 Rishikesh starting prices were for women-only shared rooms. At those schools the cheapest room a man could book cost $300 to $400 more. If you are a man or a couple, ask "Is this room open to me?" first. Our $440 dorm is open to everyone: men and women sleep in separate dorms.
2. Meals, and how many
Some low prices are for teaching only, or teaching plus a bed. Others include two meals a day, and some include three. Over three weeks, buying one meal a day in a Tapovan café adds up. We serve two sattvic vegetarian meals a day on teacher trainings (brunch and dinner), plus evening chai, herbal tea and filtered water. We say this up front because the daily timetable is built around it.
3. Cooling and heating
Where schools print the amount, air conditioning adds about $80 to $150 to a course, and some charge extra for a heater. Budget rooms usually have fans. Our dorm has fans. From November to February we use heated halls and give a heated blanket in every room, at no extra cost.
4. Airport pickup
About half of the Rishikesh schools in our index include a free pickup from Dehradun airport (DED). We do not include it, but we can arrange a taxi for an extra charge. It is about an hour by car.
5. Small group and senior teachers
A cheap course can still be a good course, but ask who teaches you and how many students are in the room. In our data, price did not predict batch size. At our school, batches are capped at 12, founder Mayuri leads every batch, and Rahul teaches philosophy.
6. A real Yoga Alliance registration
A price is only a bargain if the certificate is recognised. Search the school on yogaalliance.org and look for "RYS 200" on its profile. A logo on a website is not proof. You can see ours on the Yoga Alliance school profile.
