Original 2026 price data from 131 yoga schools: the median Rishikesh 200-hour starts at $799, but the real floor for any student with room and meals is $999. Medians for 100, 200, 300 and 500 hours, what drives price, and how to compare quotes.
Quick answer: what does yoga teacher training cost in Rishikesh in 2026?

100-hour: median $580 (12 schools)
200-hour: median $799 (19 schools)
300-hour: median $1,174 (16 schools)
500-hour: median $2,000 (10 schools)
Our own 200-hour starts at $440 in a dorm. We left our school out of every number above.
"How much should a yoga teacher training in Rishikesh cost?" is one of the first questions people send us. It is hard to answer well. Some schools hide their prices. Some show a crossed-out "list price". Some advertise a cheap room that only women can book.
So we did the slow thing. We read the price pages of 131 yoga schools in 9 places where people train. Then we turned the numbers into the index below. We do not name any school. The goal is to show you what the market looks like, so you can judge any quote you get, including ours.
Written by Mayuri Shewale, E-RYT 500 (Yoga Alliance) and founder of Swaastik Yog School in Rishikesh. I lead our teacher trainings in Tapovan, so I have a stake in this topic. That is why the method is published in full below, our own school is kept out of every median, and every figure about us comes straight from our live course pages.

How to read this table. The median is the middle school: half charge less, half charge more. The "lower quarter" and "upper quarter" mark the middle half of the market. So for a 200-hour course, half of the schools start somewhere between $674 and $1,200.
How much is a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh?
A 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh has a median starting price of $799 in 2026, based on 19 schools. Prices start at $595 and go up to $2,150. But a starting price is often not the price you will pay. When we only count rooms that include accommodation and meals and are open to any student, the median rises to $999. A private room has a median of $1,274.

Budget, mid-range or premium: where do Rishikesh schools fall?
Most Rishikesh schools start below $1,000 for a 200-hour course. Only 2 of the 19 start above $1,500. Here is how the starting prices spread out.

Real floor (stay + meals, any gender)
What you usually get
Budget: under $700
6 of 19 schools
3 of 18 schools
3- to 6-bed rooms; A/C usually extra
Mid-range: $700–$1,000
7 of 19

Twin or triple rooms, more extras listed (pickup, kit, massage)
Upper mid: $1,001–$1,500

Often one flat price or a single room, smaller groups claimed
Premium: over $1,500

Look at the "real floor" column. Once you count only rooms that anyone can book with meals included, the budget band shrinks from 6 schools to 3. Some shoppers who think they found a $600 course are really looking at a $900–$1,000 course.
How does Rishikesh compare with Goa, Kerala, Bali and other places?
Rishikesh has the lowest median 200-hour starting price of the seven places in this table. Kerala, Dharamshala and Nepal are about $300 to $450 higher. Goa is about $700 higher. In Bali and Thailand the median is two and a half to three times higher, and the price often does not include a room.

We also checked Dehradun (only 3 priced schools, too few for a fair median) and a group of Western and online schools. Neither is in this table. Same rules as Rishikesh: in-person courses at that place only, international rates only.
A simple way to compare places, and courses of different lengths (Rishikesh 200-hour courses run 21 to 28 days), is price per day. The median Rishikesh starting price of $799 over a typical 24-day course is about $33 a day, usually with your room and meals. In Bali, the $2,049 median is often for teaching only, before you pay for a room.

What actually drives the price of a yoga teacher training?
The Yoga Alliance 200-hour standard is the same at every registered school. So the price differences mostly come from where you sleep, what you eat and what extras are bundled in. These are the drivers we saw in the data, in order of size.
1. Your room is the biggest cost
In the 15 Rishikesh schools that publish both a cheap room and a private room, the private room added a median of $400 (range $130 to $750). That is about 1.5 times the cheapest room. If you want to save money, the room is where to do it. Our guide to dorm vs shared vs private rooms shows what each type is like day to day.
A dorm room on our Tapovan campus. Room type is the single biggest reason two students on the same course pay different prices.
2. Some cheap rooms are for women only
3 of the 19 Rishikesh starting prices were for women-only shared rooms. At those schools, the cheapest room a man could book cost $300 to $400 more. If you are a man or a couple, ask "Is this room open to me?" before you compare.
3. A few headline prices have no room at all
In Rishikesh this was rare: 1 school in 19 led with a "without accommodation" price. Its cheapest room with stay and meals was $100 higher. In Bali it was normal: at least 10 of 17 starting prices were for teaching only.
4. Meals: two or three a day
About 12 of the 19 Rishikesh schools say they serve three meals a day. At least one says two. The rest do not say clearly. Ask. Over three or four weeks, buying a daily lunch in a Tapovan café adds up. To be clear about our own school: we serve two sattvic meals a day, brunch and dinner, plus evening chai, herbal tea and filtered water.
5. Air conditioning and heaters are often extra
Several schools charge more for A/C. Where they print the amount, it is about $80 to $150 for the course. At least two schools also charge extra for a room heater. If you train in May or June, or in mid-winter, this matters.
6. Airport pickup
At least 10 of the 19 schools include a free airport pickup, usually from Dehradun airport (DED). The rest charge for it, offer it "on request" or do not say. We do not include it. A Dehradun transfer is about an hour by car.
7. Batch size did not match price
Fewer than half of the 19 schools publish a batch size. The numbers ranged from 8 to 20 students, and "up to 15" was the most common claim. We saw no clear link between group size and price. A $699 school and a $1,000 school both promised similar small groups. So ask about group size directly, and do not assume a high price buys a small group.
8. Crossed-out "list prices"
At least 6 of the 19 Rishikesh schools show a higher crossed-out price next to the real one. The crossed-out price is often about a third higher. In this index we always used the price you would actually pay, never the crossed-out one. Honest note: our own site has one crossed-out price too, on the 300-hour private room ($1,650 shown, $1,485 charged).
Where does Swaastik Yog School's price sit?
Our prices come from our live course pages. They include the course, your certificate, your room and meals. We kept our school out of the medians, so here is how it compares from the outside.
Our dorm prices are below every starting price in this Rishikesh sample, for all four course lengths. Our 200-hour dorm works out to about $20 a day.
Our dorm is 4 beds, single-gender, and open to men and women (in separate dorms).
Our shared room ($880) sits a little below the $999 median for a twin room among the 10 schools that publish one.
Our private room ($1,100) sits below the $1,274 private-room median.
This does not make us "the cheapest in Rishikesh". Rishikesh has far more schools than we sampled, and we did not include Indian-resident rates. It does show where we sit in the market that most international students see when they search.
What our price includes: the course and certificate, accommodation, two sattvic meals a day (brunch and dinner), evening chai and herbal tea, filtered RO water, mats and props, printed course materials to keep, Wi-Fi, weekend excursions and all taxes. Not included: airport transfer, laundry and personal spending. You hold a seat with a 10% deposit, and you pay the rest when you arrive. For the full list of travel costs on top of the course fee, see how much yoga teacher training costs in Rishikesh.
How do I compare two yoga teacher training quotes?
Turn every quote into the same thing: the total you will pay for your room type, with meals, for the full course. Then divide by the number of days. Ask each school these questions in writing.
Ask this
Why it matters
Is this price for my room type, and is that room open to me?
3 of 19 headline prices were women-only rooms. Men paid $300–$400 more.
Does it include the room and all meals? How many meals a day?
Some prices are teaching-only. Some schools serve two meals, some three.
Is A/C or a heater extra?
Where printed, A/C added about $80–$150.
Is airport pickup included?
About half of schools include a Dehradun pickup. Half do not.
Is the crossed-out price ever charged?
If the "discount" never ends, the real price is the lower one. Compare that.
How much is the deposit, and is it refundable or movable?
Where schools published terms, deposits ranged from a flat $100 to 25% of the fee. Some were non-refundable.
How many students are in the batch, and who teaches?
Group size and teacher experience shape what you learn. Price does not predict either.
Is the school registered with Yoga Alliance at this course level?
Check it yourself on the Yoga Alliance directory. Our guide to what RYT-200 means shows how.
A worked example. Based on patterns in the data, imagine two quotes. School A says "$649". School B says "$880". But A's $649 room is women-only. The cheapest room a man can book there is $999, A/C is $100 extra, and pickup is not included. For a man who wants A/C, School A is really $1,099 plus a taxi, while B's $880 already includes his room and meals. Same course standard, very different real price.
Hands-on teaching in our shala. Ask every school how many students share a teacher, because price alone will not tell you.
How we collected this data
We want this index to be checkable, so here is exactly how we built it.
Which schools. We picked the schools a student actually sees. For each of 9 places (Rishikesh, Dharamshala, Dehradun, Kerala, Goa, Nepal, Bali, Thailand and a group of Western and online schools) we listed the schools that appeared in Google's map results and top search results for yoga teacher training searches. That gave 131 schools.
What we read. On 22–23 August 2026 we saved and read 770 public pages from those schools: course pages, price tables, schedules and FAQs. We used a web crawler to save the pages, then checked the prices by hand.
One price per school per course. We took the lowest price published for international students for the in-person course at that location. We used the price you would pay, not a crossed-out price.
What we left out. Online-only and hybrid courses. Indian-resident rates. Prices for a school's campus in another country. Placeholder or add-on figures that were not a course price. In Rishikesh this removed 2 of 21 schools.
The "real floor". As a second measure, we took the cheapest price that included both room and meals and that any student could book. One school did not say which room its price covered, so it is not in that measure.
Currency. Non-dollar prices were converted at rounded market rates for late August 2026: €1 = $1.17, £1 = $1.34, $1 = ₹95.4, $1 = 33.4 Thai baht and $1 = 17,800 Indonesian rupiah. Rishikesh prices were almost all published in dollars, so the Rishikesh figures barely depend on these rates.
Our school. Swaastik Yog School is not included in any median, quartile or count.
Limits you should know about. 30 of the 131 schools showed no 200-hour price at all (about 24 of them do sell a 200-hour course), so the index only covers schools that publish prices. Samples outside Rishikesh are small, especially Kerala (6) and Nepal (7). Schools change prices often, and some run sales, so treat any single figure as a snapshot from August 2026. We intend to refresh the index every year.

Frequently asked questions
What is a fair price for a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh?
Most international students pay between about $674 and $1,200, which is the middle half of the 19 schools we checked. The median starting price is $799. If you need a room that is open to you and includes meals, expect a median of about $999.
Why is yoga teacher training so much cheaper in Rishikesh than in Bali?
Day-to-day costs are lower in Rishikesh, and most Rishikesh prices include your room and meals. In our data the Bali median was $2,049, and at least 10 of 17 Bali starting prices did not include a room. The 200-hour Yoga Alliance standard is the same in both places.
Does a more expensive course mean better teaching?
Not on its own. In our data, most of the price difference came from rooms, meals and extras. Batch size did not line up with price. Judge teaching by the named teachers, their credentials, the syllabus and honest reviews. Our guide to the best yoga schools in Rishikesh lists what to check.
How much does a 300-hour or 500-hour course cost in Rishikesh?
The median 300-hour starting price is $1,174 across 16 schools, and the median 500-hour is $2,000 across 10 schools. Our 300-hour guide explains what the advanced course adds. At our school the 300-hour starts at $660 and the 500-hour at $880 in a dorm.
What is not included in most yoga teacher training prices?
Flights, your visa, travel insurance and pocket money are almost never included. Depending on the school, airport pickup, A/C, a third daily meal and laundry may also be extra. Our India visa guide covers the visa step.
Why don't some yoga schools publish their prices?
We can only say what we saw: about 24 of the 131 schools sell a 200-hour course but show no price for it on their website. Some ask you to send an enquiry or download a brochure first. A published price lets you compare calmly before you talk to anyone, so we think it is worth asking for one in writing.
