What Is the 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India?
The 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, India is the advanced stage of the Yoga Alliance teacher-training pathway. It is built for graduates who already hold an RYT-200 (or an equivalent 200-hour certificate) and want to move from competent teacher to confident, master-level instructor. Held in Tapovan, Rishikesh — the yoga capital of the world — this advanced 300 hour yoga teacher training in India deepens everything you began in your 200-hour course and adds the therapeutic, philosophical, and teaching-methodology layers that distinguish a senior teacher.
Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 300)
Swaastik Yog School is a Yoga Alliance Registered School. On completing our 300-hour course you receive an RYT-300 certificate, and by combining it with your existing RYT-200 you register directly as an RYT-500 — the highest internationally recognised Yoga Alliance teaching credential, accepted in 70+ countries.
Led by an E-RYT 500 Senior Teacher
Advanced training only works when your teacher has genuinely walked the path. Our 300-hour programme is led by Mayuri Shewale, an experienced E-RYT 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) who has guided hundreds of students, supported by faculty specialising in yoga therapy, philosophy, and anatomy.
A Genuinely International Cohort
We have welcomed students from over 60 countries to study advanced yoga in its birthplace. Training alongside an international cohort of experienced practitioners — all working toward RYT-500 — is part of what makes the 300-hour experience so rich and the professional connections so lasting.
Set in Tapovan, Rishikesh
Rishikesh is where many of the great yoga lineages were formalised, on the banks of the Ganga at the foothills of the Himalayas. Completing your 300 hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh means deepening your practice in the cultural and geographical context the tradition emerged from.
How the 300-Hour Differs from the 200-Hour
If you already hold an RYT-200, you know the foundations. The 300-hour course is not "more of the same" — it shifts the focus from learning to practise and teach toward refining, specialising, and taking responsibility for advanced and therapeutic students. Here is how the two levels compare.
Advanced Asana & Adjustments
Where the 200-hour builds a safe foundation of primary postures, the 300-hour introduces arm balances, deep backbends, and advanced inversions — plus hands-on adjustment methodology so you can guide other practitioners safely, not just perform the poses yourself.
Teaching Methodology & Mentorship
The 200-hour gets you in front of a class. The 300-hour sharpens you into a mentor: supervised practicum, structured peer feedback, sequencing for advanced groups, and curriculum-design workshops for building your own multi-week series, retreats, and workshops.
Philosophy in Depth
The 200-hour introduces the Eight Limbs and key concepts. The 300-hour undertakes a full sequential study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras with Samkhya cosmology and selected Bhagavad Gita verses — so you can teach yoga authentically, not just physically.
Yoga Therapy & Applied Anatomy
This is the biggest leap. The 300-hour adds therapeutic applications for common conditions (lower-back pain, knee and shoulder issues), nervous-system regulation, dosha-informed practice design, and deeper subtle-body anatomy — equipping you to work responsibly with students managing injury or chronic conditions.
Eligibility: Who Can Join the 300-Hour Course?
The 300-hour curriculum builds directly on a completed 200-hour training, so a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 (or an equivalent 200-hour certificate from a recognised school) is required to enrol. Beyond the paperwork, the ideal candidate has been practising and ideally teaching regularly, is comfortable with the physical and mental demands of a month-long residential immersion, and is ready to receive honest feedback. If you completed your 200-hour with us or elsewhere, you are eligible — your 300-hour certificate combines with your 200-hour record to register you as an RYT-500 with Yoga Alliance.

Who Should Take a 300-Hour Advanced Training?
This is advanced-level work. Knowing whether you are ready makes the experience more rewarding for everyone in the room.
You are a strong fit if you…
- Hold a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 (or equivalent 200-hour) certification and have been teaching or practising regularly
- Want to teach advanced postures, multi-level workshops, or yoga therapy with greater confidence and safety
- Feel called to study Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Samkhya philosophy, and subtle-body anatomy at a deeper level
- Are working toward the Yoga Alliance RYT-500 credential to open doors in studios, retreat centres, and corporate wellness
- Seek structured mentorship and supervised teaching practice — not just more solo practice time
- Are comfortable with the physical and mental demands of a month-long immersive residential programme
What to keep in mind
- A 200-hour foundation is required — the 300-hour curriculum builds directly on asana, pranayama, and philosophy you already know
- Advanced training amplifies both strengths and blindspots; come ready to receive honest feedback from teachers and peers
- The practicum component requires you to teach real students, which can feel vulnerable — that discomfort is where the growth lives
- Residential immersion means reduced screen time, structured meals, early rising, and communal living — all part of the practice
- The RYT-500 credential is not awarded at the end of the 300-hour course alone; you register it with Yoga Alliance by combining your RYT-200 and RYT-300 records
The RYT-500 Pathway Explained
How completing a 300-hour training unlocks the highest Yoga Alliance teaching credential.
Your existing foundation — asana fundamentals, basic pranayama, anatomy, and introductory philosophy
Advanced asana and adjustments, yoga therapy, Yoga Sutras, practicum teaching, and mentored instruction
The combined credential — registered with Yoga Alliance after submitting both your 200h and 300h certificates
What RYT-500 means in practice
Teach internationally recognised classes
Many studios worldwide, cruise lines, resort wellness centres, and corporate clients require an RYT-500 for lead teachers and programme directors.
Train future teachers
Only E-RYT 500 teachers (experienced RYT-500s with the required teaching hours) can lead Yoga Alliance-registered teacher training programmes.
Expand your therapeutic scope
The 300-hour curriculum deepens anatomy and yoga therapy knowledge, giving you tools to work responsibly with students managing injury or chronic conditions.
Differentiate in a crowded market
The number of RYT-200 teachers has grown rapidly. An RYT-500 signals sustained commitment, deeper knowledge, and professional seriousness to potential students and employers.
Advanced Curriculum Breakdown
An overview of what distinguishes 300-hour study from the 200-hour foundation — and why each pillar matters for your teaching.
Advanced Asana & Precise Adjustments
- Intermediate and advanced postures not typically covered in the 200-hour syllabus, including arm balances, deep backbends, and advanced inversions
- Hands-on adjustment methodology — understanding when to touch, when to cue verbally, and how anatomy varies between students
- Sequencing logic for advanced practitioners: how to prepare the body progressively without shortcutting safety
- Modifications and contraindications for students with injuries, allowing you to teach truly inclusive advanced classes
Advanced Pranayama & Energy Practices
- Extended practice with Nadi Shodhana, Bhramari, Surya Bhedana, Chandra Bhedana, and Sheetali in therapeutic contexts
- Kumbhaka (breath retention) training — internal and external — with appropriate foundations and contra-indications
- Bandha (energy lock) application integrated with pranayama and advanced asana practice
- Teaching pranayama to groups with mixed experience levels safely and systematically
Yoga Philosophy — Patanjali's Yoga Sutras
- A full sequential study of the four chapters of the Yoga Sutras with Sanskrit terminology explained
- Samkhya cosmology as the philosophical backbone of Classical Yoga — how it informs the eight-limb path
- Practical application: translating abstract philosophy into language and guidance your students can actually use
- Bhagavad Gita selected verses on karma yoga, jnana yoga, and bhakti as complementary frameworks
Yoga Therapy & Applied Anatomy
- Therapeutic applications of yoga for common musculoskeletal conditions: lower back pain, knee issues, shoulder impingement
- Nervous system regulation — understanding the parasympathetic and sympathetic roles of different practices
- Introduction to Ayurvedic principles and how dosha theory informs practice design for different body-mind types
- Subtle body anatomy: deeper study of the chakra system, nadis, and prana vayus beyond introductory level
Teaching Practicum & Mentorship
Knowing yoga and knowing how to teach yoga are two very different skills. The practicum closes that gap.
Observed Teaching Rounds
Students take turns leading portions of class while peers and a senior teacher observe. Feedback is structured, specific, and constructive — focused on cueing clarity, class pacing, and the quality of presence you bring to the front of the room.
Small-Group Mentorship
Beyond the group practicum, smaller mentorship sessions give you direct one-on-one and small-group time with lead instructors to work through specific challenges in your teaching: voice, sequencing logic, managing difficult situations in class, and building a coherent teaching style.
Curriculum Design Workshop
Advanced teachers need to design as well as deliver. Workshop sessions cover how to build a 6-week series, a retreat arc, or a corporate wellness programme — translating your knowledge into formats students can follow and schools will hire you to teach.

I recently completed my training at Swastik Yoga School in Rishikesh and had a really positive experience. As a beginner, I learned Hatha, Ashtanga, and even Aerial yoga in a very supportive environment. My teachers, Mayuri and Rahul, were knowledgeable, patient, and truly dedicated. I’ve already started seeing positive changes in my body, flexibility, and overall strength. The school is also great for a multicultural experience, with students coming from all around the world, which made learning even more enriching. Grateful for the journey and highly recommend it to anyone starting or deepening their yoga practice.

Though I wish I could be a gatekeeper, it would be wrong to not share how remarkably wonderful the curriculum and team at Swaastik Yog School are. Ranjana, Rahul, and the head mistress Mayuri are phenomenally warm, insightful, and with you each step of your journey. My experience was so lovely, I’ve already made arrangements to return for a 500YTTC this fall. The price point is almost unfair, as the program was so rich, and the meals (with views) were so delicious. My favorite element of the curriculum was the Philosophy component, as I’d never known about the Gita prior to this visit. If you are looking for an intellectually rich, physically challenging, and socially warm experience as you complete your yoga teacher training, don’t walk, RUN, to Swaastik! Thank you so much again to your incredible team! (I’ve added pictures of some of the delicious Ayurvedic yogi meals they serve, as I’m sure many of you are wondering as I was prior to my visit :) )
