For a small, senior-led advanced course at a fair price, Swaastik Yog School in Tapovan is a strong choice. What is a 300-hour yoga teacher training?

A 300-hour yoga teacher training is an advanced course for people who have already finished a 200-hour training. It does not repeat the basics. It goes deeper into advanced asana, hands-on adjustments, pranayama, philosophy, therapeutic yoga and teaching skills.

The 200-hour course teaches you to lead a safe, simple class. The 300-hour course teaches you to lead any room: mixed levels, injuries, advanced students, workshops and retreats. Our short post on the difference between 200 and 300 hour yoga teacher training covers that one question in detail.

Best 300-hour yoga teacher training schools in Rishikesh (2026)

The best 300-hour school for you depends on the style you want, the group size you learn best in, and your budget; Rishikesh 300-hour fees in 2026 run from about $660 to over $2,500. Here are five well-known schools. We checked each school's own website on 20 October 2026.

Disclosure: Swaastik Yog School wrote this guide and is one of the schools listed.

1. Swaastik Yog School (Tapovan)

Swaastik Yog School is a women-led Yoga Alliance RYS 200, 300 and 500 school, founded in 2015 by Mayuri Shewale. Mayuri (E-RYT 500, 15+ years) leads every 300-hour batch herself, and co-founder Rahul Badoni (E-RYT 500, 15+ years) teaches philosophy. Batches stay at 15–20 students, and new batches start twice a month.

  • Strengths: founder Mayuri Shewale leads every batch; small groups; all-inclusive price from $660; 22 days, so less time off work; start dates on the 5th and 15th of every month.
  • Consider: it is a shorter, focused 22-day course rather than four weeks; airport pickup is extra; the dorm is simple (bamboo cottages with bunk beds).

2. Sattva Yoga Academy

Sattva Yoga Academy runs a four-week advanced 300-hour training in its own Himalayan Yog-Vedantic style at the Sattva Retreat Centre. The course includes kriyas, Kundalini practices, advanced pranayama, mantra and Vinyasa Krama.

  • Strengths: a distinctive, well-known lineage style; resort-style centre with pool and air-conditioned rooms; three meals a day.
  • Consider: the highest price on this list (shared rooms from about $2,350, single occupancy extra); only a few fixed dates a year (the next listed are March and September 2027).

3. Himalayan Yoga Association

Himalayan Yoga Association offers a 28-day Hatha, Vinyasa and Ashtanga-based 300-hour course, with yoga therapy and Ayurveda, starting around the 1st of each month.

  • Strengths: monthly dates; a wide range of room types; three meals a day, free Dehradun airport pickup and air-conditioned rooms are listed as included.
  • Consider: prices on its site change with time-limited offers (listed at about $889–$1,589 in October 2026); no batch size is stated on the page.

4. Rishikesh Yogkulam

Rishikesh Yogkulam runs a 29-day multi-style 300-hour course, mostly Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa with weekly Yin or Restorative yoga, starting on the 1st of each month.

  • Strengths: stated batch size of 15–20; twin-shared rooms with attached bathroom; free Dehradun airport pickup; a published code of conduct.
  • Consider: about $1,199 twin-shared or $1,499 private; the site says no meals are served on Sundays; several near-term batches show only a few seats left.

5. Nirvana Yoga School

Nirvana Yoga School, on Silent Hill in Upper Tapovan, offers a 300-hour course in Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Ayurveda and yoga therapy.

  • Strengths: stated batch size of 15–20; balcony rooms; three sattvic meals a day, excursions and free Dehradun pickup listed as included.
  • Consider: listed at about $849 (dorm) to $1,399 (private) with a time-limited offer; the page gives both 27 and 29 days, so confirm the exact length.

Who is the 300-hour course for?

The 300-hour course suits people who already hold a 200-hour certificate and want to teach with more depth and confidence:

  • New teachers who felt their 200-hour course went by too fast.
  • Working teachers who want to teach arm balances, inversions, backbends and students with injuries safely.
  • Philosophy lovers who want to study the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita properly.
  • Teachers working toward RYT 500 for studio, retreat or teacher-training roles.

Who should wait? If you have not practised much since your 200-hour course, give yourself a few months of steady practice first. The advanced asana classes assume a strong base.

What do you need before you join?

You need a 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate, and it does not have to be from our school. A certificate from any Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS 200) is fine. If your 200-hour course was not with a Yoga Alliance school, email us at swaastikyogschool@gmail.com and we will look at it case by case.

Never done a teacher training? Then start with the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, or the 500-hour course, which needs no prior training.

How does the 300-hour course lead to RYT 500?

Yoga Alliance's RYT 500 needs 500 hours of training and 100 hours of teaching. A 200-hour course at an RYS 200 plus a 300-hour course at an RYS 300 meets the training part, at the same school or at different schools. The 100 teaching hours must come after your 200-hour training.

One thing confuses many students: Yoga Alliance has no "RYT 300" title. When you finish our course, you get an RYS 300 certificate. You then use it, together with your 200-hour training, to apply for RYT 500.

StepWhat you doWhat you have after
1Finish a 200-hour training at an RYS 200RYT 200
2Teach classes and log your hoursTeaching hours toward RYT 500
3Finish a 300-hour training at an RYS 300500 training hours in total
4Reach 100 teaching hours since your 200-hour, then applyRYT 500

Tip: teach between your 200-hour and 300-hour courses, so you may have your 100 hours when you finish. Yoga Alliance charges its own application fee and yearly dues, which can change, so check yogaalliance.org. Still deciding? Read is Yoga Alliance certification worth it?

What will you study on the 300-hour course?

The 300-hour syllabus at Swaastik has six parts: cleansing practices (shatkarma), advanced pranayama, advanced asana, philosophy, anatomy and yoga therapy, and teaching skills. Each one builds on your 200 hours. Nothing is a repeat.

ModuleWhat you studyHow it goes past the 200-hour
ShatkarmaJal neti, rubber neti, vaman dhauti, nauli, kapalbhati, tratakaYou practise each one, then learn when it is right and when it is not
Advanced pranayamaNadi shodhana, kumbhaka, bandhas, surya and chandra bhedana, bhramari, sheetaliBreath holds and locks, and teaching breathwork to mixed groups safely
Advanced asanaAdvanced hatha, the Ashtanga intermediate series, arm balances, deep backbends, inversions, propsHands-on adjustments, sequencing for strong students, injury management
PhilosophyYoga Sutras chapters 3 and 4, Samkhya, selected Bhagavad Gita verses, Vedas and Upanishads overviewA full study of the texts, and how to talk about them in class
Anatomy and yoga therapyBody systems, chakras and nadis, asana for lower back, knee and shoulder issuesAdapting a class for injuries or long-term conditions
Teaching methodologyAdvanced sequencing, student management, the business of yoga, supervised teachingDesigning a 6-week series, a workshop or a retreat
Two trainees at Swaastik Yog School practise a hands-on adjustment, one steadying a student's hips and one supporting her arms as she arches back over a yoga wheel
Adjustment practice in the shala. You learn to support a deep backbend from both sides. Consent always comes first.

Who teaches it? I lead the advanced asana, adjustment and sequencing classes, and I sign off every student's teaching practice. Rahul Badoni, E-RYT 500 with 15+ years of teaching, leads the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and philosophy. You can read more about me on my teacher page.

The final exam is a practical teaching exam: you teach a class while your teachers watch and give feedback. By then you will have taught parts of classes to your batch many times.

What does a day on the 300-hour course look like?

A normal day runs from about 5:30 AM to 10 PM, with two practice sessions, two theory classes, a workshop and evening meditation. Meals and a rest block fit between sessions.

TimeWhat happens
06:00 – 06:30Herbal tea and shatkarma

From November to February the halls are heated, and every room has a heated blanket.

How long is the course and when does it start?

Our 300-hour course lasts 22 days and 21 nights, with new batches on the 5th and the 15th of every month, all year. For example, a batch starting on 5 November 2026 ends on 26 November.

  • You can move in the day before your course starts.
  • Each batch has 15–20 students, so you still get real hands-on feedback.
  • Classes are taught in English.

How much does the 300-hour training cost at Swaastik?

At Swaastik Yog School, the 300-hour training costs $660 in a dorm, $990 in a shared room, or $1,485 in a private room, all-inclusive. You book with a 10% deposit and pay the rest when you arrive.

Shared roomTwin-shared, attached bathroom$990$95$895
Private roomJust you, attached bathroom$1,485$145$1,340

The deposit is 10% rounded down to the nearest $5. Before you pay, please read our refund policy. In short, the deposit and course fee are not refundable, but you can move to a later batch.

What is included

  • All training and classes
  • 21 nights in your chosen room
  • Sattvic vegetarian meals
  • Course manual and materials
  • Your RYS 300 certificate

What is not included

Should you do 200 + 300 hours, or the 500-hour course?

If you have no training yet, our 500-hour course costs less than a 200-hour plus a 300-hour, and it is one 51-day trip instead of two. If you already have a 200-hour certificate, the 300-hour is the natural next step.

Room200-hour + 300-hour (two trips)500-hour (one trip)
Dorm$440 + $660 = $1,100$880
Shared room$880 + $990 = $1,870$1,650
Private room$1,100 + $1,485 = $2,585$2,200

Many people still split it, because teaching in between counts toward RYT 500. See the 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh if one trip suits you better.

What should you ask any 300-hour school before booking?

The most useful question to ask any Rishikesh school is who will actually teach your advanced classes, because senior teachers matter most at this level. Ask every school the same short list:

  • Are you an RYS 300? Only hours from a Registered Yoga School count toward RYT 500. Ours: see our Yoga Alliance profile.
  • How many students per batch? Ours: 15–20.
  • Who teaches the advanced asana? Ours: Mayuri Shewale, E-RYT 500, in every batch.
  • Is there a written code of conduct? Ours: yes, and adjustments are always offered, never imposed.
  • What exactly is included? Hidden costs add up fast.

Travelling alone? Swaastik is women-led, with gender-separate dorms and female staff on campus. Read more on our women-led yoga school page.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best 300-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh?

It depends on your style, budget and how you like to learn. Swaastik Yog School suits people who want senior founders (both E-RYT 500) teaching a small batch of 15–20, from $660 all-inclusive, with starts on the 5th and 15th. Sattva Yoga Academy suits people who want its own lineage style at a higher price. Himalayan Yoga Association, Rishikesh Yogkulam and Nirvana Yoga School run longer, roughly four-week courses each month.

How much does a 300-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh cost?

Most 300-hour courses in Rishikesh cost about $660 to $2,500 in 2026, including food and stay. At Swaastik Yog School it is $660 in a dorm, $990 in a shared room or $1,485 in a private room, with training, accommodation, sattvic vegetarian meals, materials and certificate included.

Can I do the 300-hour course without a 200-hour certificate?

No. The 300-hour course is advanced training, so you need a 200-hour certificate first, from any Yoga Alliance registered school. If you have no training yet, choose a 200-hour course or a 500-hour course. Our 500-hour course needs no prior training and covers both levels in 51 days.

Will I be RYT 500 on the day I finish?

Only if you already have 100 hours of teaching since your 200-hour training. Yoga Alliance asks for 500 training hours and 100 teaching hours. Your 200 plus 300 hours cover the training. There is no RYT 300 title; if you still need teaching hours, teach them after the course, then apply.

How hard is the physical practice?

It is noticeably harder than a 200-hour course. You work on arm balances, deep backbends, inversions and the Ashtanga intermediate series. You will be shown modifications, so you do not need every advanced pose on day one, but you should be practising regularly before you come.
